Free Browser Android Review!
Free Browser is an android browser made by woheller69 an indie developer on github. Free browser like many other alternatives to Firefox & Chrome advertise they offer optimal privacy. Claiming to be the best like many others is never a good way to put yourself out there as most people believe this is a false sense of security & are deturred from advertisement claims that are not honest.
Like most alternatives they offer the same exact features which Free Browser states.
- AdBlock
- Anti-Browser-Fingerprinting measures
- Desktop Mode
- DOM-Storage
- JavaScript
Adblocking is done by copying the same lists most alternatives do which is steve's list & other well known publically open blocklists stored in a text file. Anti-browser fingerprint measures are the basic standard offer of almost every browser there is nothing unique here that stands out to note. Desktop mode every browser offers that, DOM-Storage you can prevent a site from using it another standard feature in every alternative offering more privacy.
Javascript blocking it's the same limited choice as every other browser that advertises it's better privacy which is to either block it all or allow it all. This is terrible as we know tons of sites block off people with js disabled as you have probably come across many times a warning or error saying you must enable javascript to continue. Lots of sites have javascript which loads from other websites & can be used to track you & obtain computer specs, browser information, monitor browsing activity, & track you across different websites.
Free Browser is a forked project from FOSS Browser which offers all the same features & even the style is the same. The only difference really is in name & who is credited as developer. The dev of free browser is not looking to improve the browser or make it better as multiple github issues offering suggestions to improve the browser are just closed with no explanation from the developer.
Would you put your trust in a dev who thinks they are above people that they do not have to answer anyone, explain why, & does not listen to suggestions or reasoning? Free Browser requires almost every permission like most browsers do. There are alternatives that offer the same if not more protection & do not require as much permissions to use it.
Javascript blocking requires you to see where every js is loading from having a block all or allow all isn't enough to protect you as you need to enable specific ones for a site to function. But that does not mean you need to enable every single javascript element when you do you are still at risk. This is why Firefox still maintains an extremely high usage because of addon extensions like NoScript, Jshelter, UblockOrigins, HiddenHTML, Greasemonkey, BeefyTacos, & others offer you the ability to see every javascript loading on the page, what url this javascript is loading from, & enable & disable each independent url's javascript. This level of control needs to be a standard for every browser that offers privacy & protection.
I do not recommend that you use Free Browser at all. There are better browsers like Privacy Browser which offers a little more protection then Free & FOSS Browser & uses no permissions on your android device.

The bottom line for Free Browser is this offers you no more or less protection then most alternative browsers which claim to offer the best privacy you can supposedly get. This is a complete fork copy & paste of FOSS Browser you might as well use that instead. It uses the same permissions on android as most browsers which is not necessary in order to function as a browser.
